The tripod dedication of Philon · 菲隆献小鼎
Dedication on a small tripod base · c. 500–480 BC · Athens, Akropolis · Epigraphical Museum, EM 6382
The reading text is that of PHI 856 (epigraphy.packhum.org/text/856), which transmits the IG I³ 757 text; line division, brackets, interpuncts and diacritics stand as PHI prints them, and nothing has been silently altered. Letters outside brackets are read on the stone; letters inside brackets are editorial restorations transmitted with the text. Philon dedicated this little tripod to Athena, having won victory in feats of wonder…; the closing words (ἰς πόλιν ℎἀρεσίο) are obscure.
菲隆以此小鼎献于雅典娜，因奇技之胜……末四字（ἰς πόλιν ℎἀρεσίο）义晦，未敢强解。

- 4 ἰς πόλιν ℎἀρεσίο The line divisions and the mark / after l. 2 are PHI’s; the phrase has found no agreed construal, and this edition leaves it untranslated rather than choose among guesses. θαύμασι νικέσας is usually taken of victory in some spectacle or feat.
