Pristine bronze tablet from Olympia, fully preserved; very low restoration (RT1). Content: named treaty-parties (Eleans, Heraeans), sanction (talent of silver to Olympian Zeus), legal-bindingness clauses — high HT relative to length. The dossier's earliest dated decree-class document.出自奥林匹亚的青铜板,原物完好、完整保存;复原程度极低(RT1)。内容:列名的缔约双方(埃利斯人、赫拉伊亚人)、制裁条款(向奥林匹亚宙斯缴纳一塔兰同白银)、具法律约束力的条款——相对于篇幅而言历史信息密度很高。这是本文献集中年代最早的法令类文献。

ML 1969 commentary (verbatim OCR)For the Elean dialect, see Bechtel, GD ii. 827 ff., Buck, pp. 159 f. ἔα, συνέαν (ll. 2, 4, 5) = Attic εἴη, συνεῖεν. τοῖ, ταῖ (ll. 3, 8) = τοδί, ταδί (τόδε, τάδε). πὰρ (l. 4) = περί (Günther, Indog. Forsch. xx (1906-7) 139). καδαλεμένοι, καδαλέοιτο (ll. 6-7, 8) = καταδηλούμενοι, καταδηλοῖτο. ϝέτας survives in Arcadian prose until the first century B.C. (IG v. 2. 20). ἐπιάροι (= ἐφιέρωι) (l. 9) seems to mean 'fine' rather than 'curse' here. For ϝράτρα cf. No. 8. Jeffery, by confining her investigations to the allied alphabets of Elis, Arcadia, and Laconia and avoiding the remoter parallels by which this text has sometimes been dated, has lowered its date substantially. Arguments as to whether it should predate or postdate 572, the traditional date at which the Eleans finally wrested from the Pisatans the control of Olympia and its festival (Paus. vi. 22. 2), now seem beside the point. The circumstances in which Elis made this alliance with Heraea of western Arcadia must remain unknown. Heraea, to judge by its coins (Head, HN² 447), was not unimportant at this date, and there is no trace of subordination in the terms of the treaty. The alliance was for a hundred years, beginning with 'this year'. The indefiniteness may perhaps be due to the fact that a century's alliance was regarded as practically unlimited (Keil, Εἰρήνη, 8) and therefore its starting-point need not be precisely dated.Source: ML 1969, p. 32 (verbatim OCR; Bechtel, Buck, Jeffery, Keil are ML's own citations, secondary not independently verified)

4. Historical context4. 历史背景

Per ML 1969 (p. 32, verbatim above), the Eleans-and-Heraeans treaty is preserved on a bronze tablet from Olympia in the Elean Doric dialect. The text uses digamma (ϝ) — a letter Attic dropped centuries earlier — and Doric long-α throughout, but its formal architecture mirrors that of the Attic decree: heading, substantive declaration, conditional + reciprocal clauses, sanction, inscription-protection. The case is the dossier's primary test of whether the formula bundle survives across dialect, not just across time and venue.

Paraphrase, not direct quotation: the dossier's central thesis — formulaicity as the genre's grammar — is here stressed against dialectal transposition. ML 17 shares the genre-skeleton (heading → declaration → conditions → sanction → inscription-protection) with later Attic decrees while differing on every surface dimension (alphabet, dialect, vocabulary, sanctuary venue). The skeleton survives the transposition; that is the case's contribution to the typology.转述,非直引:本文献集的核心论点——公式化是这一文类的语法——在此面对方言转写的压力受到检验。ML 17 与后来的阿提卡法令共享同一文类骨架(标题 → 声明 → 条件 → 制裁 → 铭文保护),尽管在一切表层维度上都不同(字母、方言、词汇、圣所场所)。骨架在转写中存留了下来;这正是本案例对类型学的贡献。
