The Greek text of the substantive clauses is well preserved (OCR'd cleanly with proper diacritics); the named sophronistes (Adeistus son of Antimachus of Athmonon) is intact in the prescript. The preservation profile reflects content-density (named persons + institutional markers: ephebes, sophronistes, kosmetes, tribe, council, demesmen) on a near-complete stone with minimal restoration.

RO 2003 commentary (verbatim OCR)RO 2003 评注(逐字 OCR)From the 330s onwards, the arrangements described in Ath. Pol. 42 prevailed, according to which when boys of 18 years of age had had their deme membership, and hence their Athenian citizenship, confirmed, they were given two years of military training at public expense under the supervision of a kosmetes and of ten tribal sophronistai. Their training involved visiting sanctuaries, doing garrison duty in the Piraeus and in the countryside, and being educated in the use of hoplite weapons, bow, javelin and catapult. This highly regulated ephebic training was almost certainly initiated in the middle of the 330s, partly in response to the Athenian defeat at Chaeronea in August 338 (cf. 80). The lexicographer Harpocration (e 101 Ἐπικράτης) records a mention in a speech by Lycurgus of an Epicrates who was honoured with a bronze statue for a law about the ephebes. Epicrates' law may well be the most relevant of the laws referred to here (ll. 28, 54), but it cannot be precisely dated. No fewer than eight ephebic inscriptions survive from the period 333–329 which list the ephebes for a particular year from a particular tribe, three of them relating to the [year covered here].Source: RO 2003, pp. 453–454 = PDF pp. 486–487 (verbatim OCR; the speech by Lycurgus, the reference to Harpocration, and Epicrates' law are RO 2003's discussion as preserved in the OCR'd text)

4. Historical context4.

Per RO 2003's commentary at p. 453 (OCR'd verbatim above), the Lykourgan ephebeia was "almost certainly initiated in the middle of the 330s, partly in response to the Athenian defeat at Chaeronea in August 338 BCE." The honoured ephebes of this decree are the cohort that began training in 334 BCE and completed it in 332 BCE — the second cohort of the new regulated system.

The decree's form is recognisably an Athenian honorific decree: motivation clause ("since the sophronistes declares that…"), praise verb (ἐπαινέσαι), crowning verb (στεφανῶσαι), motivation tag ("for their good order and discipline"), then a parallel set of clauses for the sophronistes himself. Per RO 2003 (verbatim above): "No fewer than eight ephebic inscriptions survive from the period 333–329 which list the ephebes for a particular year from a particular tribe." This decree thus instantiates a sub-genre being institutionalised in real time.

Paraphrase, not direct quotation:转述,非直引: for the typology dossier the case documents the moment when the Lykourgan administration extended the existing Athenian honorific-decree template to cover a new institutional category (cohorts of newly-trained citizens). The formula bundle is unchanged; the institutional object it addresses is new. This is one mechanism by which the Classical Athenian decree template propagates forward into the Hellenistic period: not by formal innovation in the decree form, but by extension to new domains.
