Fragment 1 of 3. Served on the MDZ platform (BSB); the manifest names the Staatsbibliothek Bamberg as holding institution and in its attribution. Canvases: 1r, 1v, writtenNote, Farbchart. The MDZ record describes the sister piece as 'Zugehöriges Fragment (actio II, lib. 2, § 42, 43, 54, 55): Einsiedeln, Stiftsbibliothek, ohne Signatur'. The strip has no speech opening, so there are no incipits. Other parts: Einsiedeln, Stiftsbibliothek, 1099 (44) fr. 1 (Reeve); 'ohne Signatur' in the MDZ record of the Bamberg piece (fragment 2 of 3): not-digitised; fragment in private hands (owner not identified; fragment 3 of 3): could-not-check.

Cicero occurs as undertext fragments in a Biblical palimpsest. Special imaging canvases may show the same leaf in different treatments, so 802 canvases do not mean 802 manuscript pages.

BNCF staff uploaded it on 2021-08-06 (600 ppi, CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). The front pastedown (canvas 1) has the pencil shelfmark 'I. IV. 4.'. The flyleaf ownership note records San Marco provenance via fra Giorgio Antonio Vespucci, 1499. The pasted list is headed 'Codex inscriptus n. 106'. Each canvas shows a two-page opening. Canvas numbers are 1-based, so canvas N has IA label N-1 and image file 'Conventi Soppressi J.IV.4_' + (N-1) zero-padded to 4 digits + '.jp2' (canvas 238 = _0237.jp2). RESTORED 2026-08-24. Struck earlier the same day as a fabrication because the shipped table called it 'the Picenum palimpsest'. The NAME was invented — it is a papyrus, not a palimpsest, and Picenum is nothing to do with it — but the witness, the fifth-century date, the independent status and the attribution to Watson 2025 were all real.

The manifest resolves (IIIF v3, 200). Canvases are openings (e.g. '009 - f001v-002r'), covering ff. 1r-159v plus binding. The manifest's own id, https://catalogue.leidenuniv.nl/view/iiif/presentation/31UKB_LEU/12525413370002711/manifest , is Leiden's Alma IIIF endpoint and also resolves (200, same label, 170 canvases). The handle now resolves to the Leiden catalogue full display of the digital object; the page is script-driven. The companion volume BPL 16 C is outside this entry and was not checked.
Public Domain Mark 1.0; official current manifest.
Image access verified for one repository canvas only; remaining image URLs are enumerated, not individually fetched.
Catalogue work content is not an independent transcription, textual collation, or palaeographical verification.
Canvas count includes repository-specific covers, openings, details and/or imaging variants; it is not a leaf count.
The catalogue identifies De fato excerpts, incomplete Topica, mixed textual order, and three leaves transferred to VLF 84 in 1860; no completeness claim is made.
Timaeus is catalogued under Plato, with an explicit description identifying Cicero's translation and adaptation.
An older Leiden exhibition and current official catalogue differ in localization/provenance emphasis. Current manifest says northeastern France, mid ninth century, and lists the uncertainty in its metadata.
Public Domain in most countries, other than the UK.

Manifest rights statement says public domain in most countries other than the UK; no universal unrestricted license is inferred.
Official source description records incorrectly bound leaves 17-24 and two missing quires after fol. 24; the facsimile does not make the transmitted text complete.
The digital object may include bindings, charts, fragments or other works. Completeness and legibility are unassessed.

Resolved as a slip in Reeve, who prints 'B. L. Add. 47679' both in § 1.2 and in Appendix 1. BL Add MS 47679 (https://searcharchives.bl.uk/catalog/040-002104027) is Holkham MS 411, Agrimensores Romani, 12th century, and has no Cicero. The Cluny codex C is Add MS 47678 (formerly Holkham 387; no. 498 in the 12th-century Cluny catalogue). Its BL record itself says that 'Geneva, Bibliothèque Publique et Universitaire, MS. lat. 169, a single leaf containing In Verrem II. iv, 40(86)-42(92), may once have belonged to the present MS' (citing G. Vaucher, 1931).
The current digital proof covers the London portion only; Geneva Ms. lat. 169 is a separate supplemental part record.
The verdict covers the London portion only. The Geneva leaf (Ms. lat. 169, Verr. II 4.86-92) is not on e-codices: https://www.e-codices.unifr.ch/en/list/bge lists 110 BGE manuscripts, 51 of them Ms. lat., and lat. 169 is not among them (the nearest numbers are lat. 157 and lat. 172). An e-codices full-text search for 'Verrem' finds no Geneva item. The BGE's own catalogue (archives.bge-geneve.ch) sends an anti-bot proof-of-work page. I did not try to get past it, so I could not check for images hosted by the BGE itself. The manifest URL resolves (HTTP 200, IIIF Presentation 3), and Biblissima IIIF Collections lists the same manifest for 'London. British Library, Add MS 47678'. The Wayback Machine also holds captures of the pre-attack viewer page for Add_MS_47678.

Digitised Content field empty; a catalogue search for the quoted shelfmark returns this record under the Digitised Content facet value 'No' (the facet's other values are 'Yes (available)' and 'Yes (unavailable)'; Add MS 47678 shows 'Yes (available)', so the facet distinguishes never-digitised from offline). Biblissima IIIF Collections, which harvests bl.digirati.io manifests (it finds Add MS 47678), returns 0 hits for the quoted shelfmark. The record's 'Information About Copies' points to 'select digital coverage' in the old Catalogue of Illuminated Manuscripts; that catalogue is gone (its record URL for Burney MS 158 now redirects to the generic www.bl.uk/collection page), and it only ever held selected images. Secondary check: the Wayback Machine's CDX index returns no capture of the pre-attack BL Digitised Manuscripts viewer page for this shelfmark. BL record, title 'Cicero, Orationes ; Philippicae': 'ff. 1r-260v: Cicero, Orationes ; ff. 261r-322r: Cicero, Philippicae'. The record does not name the individual speeches. Its colophons match Reeve's identification: 'Explicit per Johannes Ersford de Wissenfels de almania Alta 1469 die 2 a decembris' (f. 138r) and 'Johannes Ersford de Wissenfels scripsit anno 1470' (f. 322r). Reeve cites 'Johannes Ersford de Wissenfelss de Almania alta, who signed Harl. 5428' and collates its Verrines text (e.g. II 3.5.7 vitium). The Verrines are therefore evidenced by Reeve, not by the BL record. Source ↗2026-09-25

Reeve's list and Appendix 1 read 'Plimpton 10', but Columbia's Plimpton MS 010 is a Greek Psalter fragment. Its DS record is titled 'Plimpton MS 010, Psalter', language grc, 1350-1399, with 1 image. Reeve's own text (§ 2.2.1.2 and n. 91) discusses 'Plimpton 101' and says it was never taken beyond II 3.45.18 illius provinciae necessarios, which matches Plimpton MS 101's explicit. This entry is therefore treated as Plimpton MS 101.
Only sample images exist. The old DS record had 8 images (ff. 48v, 49, 51, 64v, 65, 72, 74v-75, 98v); archive.org keeps it as a 4-page snapshot of the DS web page (IIIF https://iiif.archive.org/iiif/3/PlimptonMS101_20/manifest.json, 4 canvases showing the record pages, not the leaves). Digital Scriptorium 2.0 (search.digital-scriptorium.org JSON API) finds no Plimpton 101 record. OPenn's Columbia repository (0032) contains no Plimpton manuscripts. Photographs published by the college archivist on Flickr (489 photos, 'Complete online 18/10/2013'), not a IIIF manifest. The holding library (the Balliol College archivist) has published a complete photographic set, but on Flickr rather than as IIIF, so no manifest exists. Identity and content are confirmed; the verdict stays at 'digitised-unconfirmed' only because the rule asks for a fetched IIIF manifest. Minor quirk: the first line of the album description says 'MS 248A 1447 Italian copy of vol 2 of Cicero's Orations'. That is a slip for 248B: the album title, every photo title ('MS248B-...'), the date 1447, the 225-leaf count and the Verrines at f. 74 all match Mynors' 248B, and 248A is 'Ciceronis Orationes I'. Balliol's list page links the album with an older http 'sets/' form of the address. That form timed out for me; the https 'albums' URL given here loads. MS 248B is not on Digital Bodleian, whose Balliol holdings are MSS 238A-E, 350, 353 and 354. The Bodleian's medieval-mss TEI repository has no Balliol collection folder, so Medieval Manuscripts in Oxford Libraries was not a source for this entry.

Digitised records carry one (e.g. Canon. Class. Lat. 241: 'full digital facsimile'; Canon. Class. Colour digitisation from the original; canvases carry folio labels (1r-258v), two columns. The volume opens with Pro lege Manilia (f. 1r 'M. Colour digitisation from the original; canvases carry folio labels (1r-248v), so folio and canvas agree with the labels. Reeve p. 23 (Zumpt's 'Paris. C'): quaternions in a different hand (ff. 48-103) supply an Italian text from II 1.111 to the end of II 3, which the images bear out (II 2 and II 3 open inside that stretch; the supplement's explicit is on f. 103v). Reeve doubts the old catalogue's 14th-century date; the manifest gives 1301-1400.

Manifest resolved on the second attempt (first request returned HTTP 500); label and image count unchanged. Images come from the microfilm (MF 18668), one opening per image; canvas 1 is a microfilm target and 7/8, 10/11 are near-duplicate exposures, so canvases do not map to folios by a fixed offset. II 1 breaks off at 111 'de istius singu' on f. 53r (canvas 60), where a later hand notes 'Desunt plurima ex hac oratione'; ff. 53v-56v are blank. The catalogue's 'quartus et quintus' (of seven books) are II 2-3; the book numbers 2, 3, 6, 7 at the openings agree.

The present location rests on the SDBM's grouping of entries (0 user confirmations) and on the match of scribe, place and date: Johannes Nydenna, Padua, 1476, against Reeve's 'written at Padua by Iohannes Nydenna de Confluentia' as a companion to Abbey J. A. 276 (dated 1476). The Remnant Trust does not print the Phillipps number.
Reeve (2016) thought it 'likely to be in private hands'. The Remnant Trust's 'Digitized Works' list has only three printed books (Mill, Paine, Wollstonecraft), and no images of #0755 were found.

Refined: G is not simply 'the agreement of G1 and G2'. Peterson records G3 as EARLIER EDITORS' siglum, and its membership CHANGES BY SECTION (G1G2L in the earlier books, RG₁G₂L in iv-v). Bare 'G' in the dossier apparatus is not defined in Peterson's conspectus and needs a reader.

Candidate only: the 'Walton Cicero fragment' (Dreweatts, Western Manuscripts and Miniatures, 3 Dec 2019, lot 1). The sale describes it as 'a hitherto unknown cutting from the same lost parent manuscript' as the Bamberg and Einsiedeln pieces (Bischoff, Katalog I, no. 245), with Verr. 2.3.135-137 and 176-179. Because the sale calls it 'hitherto unknown' in 2019, it may not be Reeve's 2016 'fr. in private hands'.

Reeve reports the ducal library as lost since 1945 ('bis auf wenige Bände verschollen'). He found nothing in Reiss & Sohn, Auktion 80 (23-26 Oct. 2001), the sale of Meiningen manuscripts. Web searches (Meiningen ducal library, Facius's 'Meiningensis', Handschriftenportal) found no later trace, current holding and online digitization remain unverified.
