Edict of Sex. Sotidius Strabo
on requisitioned transport

The edict of Sextus Sotidius Strabo Libuscidianus, imperial legate of Galatia, posted in the territory of the Pisidian city of Sagalassos shortly after the deification of Augustus — about AD 14/15. The governor sets a binding schedule for the vehiculatio, the requisition of transport and lodging by travellers on the emperor's business: how many wagons, mules and donkeys the community must furnish, the rates to be paid for them, who may demand the service — the procurator, soldiers, senators, knights, centurions — and who may not. Inscribed in Latin and in an official Greek translation on one stone. Verbatim bilingual text, translation, apparatus and a section-by-section commentary.
