Eratosthenes of Cyrene

FGrH 241 (chlamys) — Eratosthenes, Geographika — chlamys-shape of the oikoumene (Strabo, Geographica 2.5.14)  Converged + audit-sound
There is, then, a chlamys-shaped (cloak-shaped) figure to the inhabited world, whose greatest breadth is traced by the line through the Nile, beginning from the parallel through the Cinnamon-bearing land ... up to the parallel through Ierne (Ireland); and its length by the line at right angles to this from the west, through the Pillars and the Sicilian strait, as far as Rhodes and the Issic Gulf, running along the Taurus which girdles Asia.

Apparatus — BNJ base vs open-corpus witness

Base text after Brill’s New Jacoby / Jacoby (FGrH). The apparatus records differences against the open-corpus witness (Scaife/Perseus) within the overlapping span; encoding and orthography are folded. Collation codepoint-verified and adversarially audited (2026-06-26).

… (ellipsis)Strabo 2.5.14 (Scaife/Perseus tlg0099.tlg001.perseus-grc2)abridgementAfter 'διὰ τῆς Κινναμωμοφόρου παραλλήλου' the candidate inserts an editorial ellipsis (U+2026) that elides the witness words 'καὶ τῆς τῶν Αἰγυπτίων τῶν φυγάδων νήσου' before resuming at 'μέχρι τοῦ διὰ τῆς Ἰέρνης παραλλήλου'. This is a transparently-marked editorial abridgement within the span, not a silent omission and not a textual variant. Both flanking segments are codepoint-verbatim in the witness (seg0+elided+seg1 == witness prefix == True).
τὴν Ἀσίαν. (terminal full stop)Strabo 2.5.14punctuationThe candidate closes the excerpt with a full stop after 'τὴν Ἀσίαν', where the witness has a space and continues '... τὴν Ἀσίαν καὶ καταστρέφοντα ...'. The period is an editorial sentence-close on the excerpt; the underlying letters are identical. No substantive word-level variant.
Witness: Scaife/Perseus. Verdict: CONVERGED (apparatus complete, publishable as BNJ-based).
Open-corpus witness family: urn:cts:greekLit. This is a BNJ/Jacoby-based edition with an open-corpus apparatus, not a verbatim copy of the witness edition. Source data: explorers/_build/editions/ecoed-erat-fgrh241-chlamys.json.
