Fragment Editions — Ancient Ecology

27 critical editions of geographical & ecological fragments — Hecataeus of Miletus, Eratosthenes, Agatharchides of Cnidus, and Hellanicus of Lesbos. Each is a Brill’s New Jacoby / Jacoby (FGrH)-based text carrying a codepoint-verified open-corpus apparatus — the audited differences between the BNJ base and the corresponding open digital witness (Athenaeus, Strabo, Diodorus, Cleomedes, Agathemerus, ps.-Demetrius, the Homer scholia, Gellius, &c.). Collation was source-grounded against the on-disk Perseus corpora and adversarially audited (2026-06-26). “In-span” marks an edition whose witness covers the verified core but not the full quotation.

Hecataeus of Miletus

Eratosthenes of Cyrene

Agatharchides of Cnidus

Hellanicus of Lesbos

6 fragments held (attribution-only). Their witnesses are real (Stephanus of Byzantium’s Ethnica, the Aetius Placita, the Apollonius-Rhodius scholia, the Photius narrative) but are not present in the open digital corpus, so no open-corpus collation was possible. The BNJ/Jacoby attribution stands; an edition awaits an offline-BNJ collation.
