Hellanicus of Lesbos

FGrH 4 F 54 — Athenaeus, Deipnosophistae 15.679f–680a  Converged + audit-sound
On the ever-blooming garlands in Egypt Hellanikos in the Aigyptiaka writes: 'A city on the river, Tindion by name, an assembly-place of gods; and a great and holy stone temple in the middle of the city, with stone doorways. Inside the temple grow acanthus-plants, white and black. On them garlands are laid above the acanthus flower, woven also of pomegranate-blossom and vine; and these bloom forever. The gods laid up these garlands in Egypt when they learned that Babys — who is Typhon — was to be king.'

Apparatus — BNJ base vs open-corpus witness

Base text after Brill’s New Jacoby / Jacoby (FGrH). The apparatus records differences against the open-corpus witness (Athenaeus, Deipn. 15 (Kaibel, open-corpus tlg0008 grc3)) within the overlapping span; encoding and orthography are folded. Collation codepoint-verified and adversarially audited (2026-06-26).
