Every speech before this one is a brief for a party. The two of 70 are 1,047 sections against one man — more than three times the whole surviving decade behind them. Afterwards he goes back to defending: of 29 speeches, 18 are for a party, and not one is a prosecution he brought. In the surviving corpus Cicero prosecutes exactly once, and this is the case.此前诸篇，无一不是为人辩护。前 70 年的两篇合计 1,047 节，皆指向一人，逾其前十年存世总量三倍。此后他仍旧辩护：29 篇之中，18 篇为人辩护，无一为他所提起的公诉。存世全集之中，西塞罗提起公诉仅此一次。

In C. Verrem, 70 BC — prosecutor, court. The only prosecution in the surviving corpus. Actio prima was delivered; the rest was published after Verres withdrew.

Later speeches attack a named man without prosecuting him, and the page keeps them apart. In Catilinam, In Pisonem and the Philippics were made in the senate or before the people, so they are counted here as public. The interrogatio of Vatinius was made in court, and is counted as against a named man — but Vatinius was a witness, at a trial where Cicero appeared for the defence.
